What is the AAUP?AAUP stands for American Association of University Professors. For those of you who are new (and others who may have forgotten), we are both: 1. The collective bargaining agent that negotiates the working conditions of part-time and full-time teaching faculty, librarians, counselors, coaches and athletic trainers. We are a chapter of the Connecticut State University - AAUP bargaining unit. 2. The professional organization that works to advance academic freedom and shared governance, to define fundamental professional values and standards for higher education, and to ensure higher education's contribution to the common good. The AAUP executive committee is available to help answer your questions about the contract and working conditions. Let us know if something’s on your mind. We can usually help. v |
Welcome New FacultyWe extend a warm welcome to our new colleagues: Wesley Ball, Music |
New Resources on our Web PageWe added a number of links to the many resources that await you on our web page: /aaup. New Contract. The Collective Bargaining Agreement between CSU-AAUP and the Board of Trustees for 2002 - 2006 is online. It went into effect on August 23, 2002. You will find the link in the Collective Bargaining section. Faculty and Staff Telephone Directory. The state of Connecticut maintains a telephone directory of WCSU faculty and staff on their web site. The directory is by last name only, and it is unclear how frequently it is updated. At the moment, it is the only web-based telephone directory of faculty members since WCSU discontinued their “Western’s Directory Assistance” feature on their web site. Find it on our site under WCSU Resources. The Campaign for a New TIAA-CREF. The Manchester College Peace Studies Institute in Indiana wants TIAA-CREF to establish a new social change fund with an emphasis on positive screening. To create a new fund, they need $25 million in pledged assets, and they are halfway there. For more information, find them under Higher Education Resources. One-Year Appointments. Those of you on one-year appointments should check out Emily Toth's essay "How to Make the Most of a One-Year Appointment." You can link to in the Perspectives section. Part-Time Faculty. Part-time faculty now have a section, with links to other sites devoted especially to part-time faculty issues. We added a special page that highlights the rights and benefits of part-time faculty members under the Contract. We try our best to keep the e-mail we send you to a minimum, so we encourage you to return to our web site often to see what is new.v |
