Lois Crucitti '71, '98
BS, MS, Nursing
Lois Crucitti graduated with her BS in Nursing from WestConn’s second nursing class in 1971. She returned to WestConn to complete her MS in Nursing in 1997. Her nursing career spans over 35 years, and as Lois states, “It has been a great ride”!
Crucitti continues today as a Public Health Nurse an at Elementary School in Waterbury. She began her career as an acute care nurse at Waterbury Hospital. Over the years, she has worked in many areas of nursing including: medical-surgical, intensive care, cardiac care, neuro-trauma, post-critical care, operating room, emergency room, recovery room, neonatal, delivery room, and post-partum. She served as a clinical educator for RN Associate degree students, and for certified home health and nurse aid programs. Additionally, Crucitti has done staff development in long-term care and has been a regional director, as well as a pharmacy nurse consultant. She has been able to successfully blend her family life and career. For instance, as a summer camp nurse, she and her children could enjoy the summer camp experience together!
Crucitti has extended her nursing expertise to the community through her volunteer work. She has participated in Junior Women’s sponsored blood pressure/cholesterol screening and blood drives, served as a member of the Youth Soccer board, PTO president, and Parks and Recreation commissioner.
What has endeared Crucitti to the faculty and students of WestConn’s
Nursing Department is her limitless dedication to staying involved and her
continual presence, support and commitment to her alma mater. As an alumna,
she has remained involved at both the university and the department levels.
She served on WestConn’s Department of Nursing Centennial Celebration
Committee, and was one of the first WestConn nursing alumni to join
WestConn’s Alumni Nursing Society. Crucitti has worked closely with
WestConn’s Alumni Association since graduating from WestConn. In this
capacity, she has served on the Reunion committee, Homecoming, Annual Alumni
Picnic, Annual Golf Tournament, Annual Fund Phone-a-thon, and co-chaired the
Annual Fund Campaign in 2003. She now serves on the Executive Board of
WestConn’s Nursing Society and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
She and her husband, Tom, have established the Crucitti Nursing Scholarship
Award.
