Alumni Spring Weekend 2009

Join fellow WestConn alumni and friends for Alumni Spring Weekend this May.

Festivities begin on Friday, May 22, and end Sunday, May 24, with volunteer opportunities available for alumni on both days. Gather the family together and spend the day on campus on Saturday, May 23, for WestConn Family Day filled with food, entertainment and fun for the whole family.

Friday, May 22, 2009

  • Cap & Gown Distribution, 3 to 7 p.m., Westside Campus Center, Westside campus
    Volunteer your time by helping distribute academic regalia to WestConn's graduating seniors during Cap & Gown Distribution. (Alumni volunteer opportunity.)
  • Graduate Commencement, 7 p.m., O'Neill Center, Westside campus.
    Join members of the university community as we congratulate students graduating
    with a WestConn's graduate degree. Connecticut Commissioner of Higher Education Michael P. Meotti will be the keynote speaker. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony sponsored by the Graduate Student Union. Free.

Saturday, May 23, 2009 (WestConn Family Day)

  • Alumni Breakfast, 10 a.m., Alumni Hall, Midtown campus.
    Join alumni and friends of the university for a continental breakfast featuring the WCSU Student Jazz Trio. Free.
  • Campus Tours, 11 a.m., Midtown campus.
    Join fellow alumni on a walking tour of the WCSU Midtown campus.  Free.
  • WestConn Barbecue, 12 p.m., Quad, Midtown campus.
    Join alumni and friends for a WestConn-style BBQ picnic featuring alumnus
    Jonathan Soares' '06 gourmet barbecue sauce. Volleyball, basketball, croquet,
    music, face painting, and a bouncy house will be available. Volleyball and
    basketball will take place in the Bill Williams Gymnasium, located in Berkshire Hall. In the case of inclement weather, the Alumni Barbecue will relocate to Warner Hall. Cost is $5/person (children 12 & under are free) or $15/family.
  • Fairfield Hall Tea & Tour, 2 p.m., Fairfield Hall, Midtown campus.
    Take a stroll down memory lane and relive your memories of this grand residence
    hall, reopened after an extensive renovation in 2008. Refreshments will be served. Free.
  • Campus Tours, 3 p.m., Westside campus.
    Join fellow alumni for a bus ride aboard the WCSU Shuttle over to the Westside campus for a walking tour of the campus. Free.
  • Alumni & Emeriti Dinner, 6 p.m., Warner Hall, Midtown campus.
    Join alumni and emeriti faculty for an evening of dining featuring a lecture by an emeriti faculty member (TBD). Cost is $30/person.

Sunday, May 24, 2009 (Commencement)

Help us welcome the class of 2009 into the WCSU Alumni Association. Alumni are invited
to participate in Commencement by leading the graduate procession. Academic regalia and reserved seating will be provided to all participating alumni.

  • Commencement Breakfast, 8 a.m., Westside Campus Center, Westside campus.
    Join alumni, students, faculty and distinguished guests for a continental breakfast prior to Commencement. Free.
  • Academic Dress, 9 a.m., O'Neill Center, Westside campus.
    Join fellow alumni participating in the Commencement procession for robing along with graduating students. (Alumni volunteer opportunity.)
  • Commencement Procession, 10 a.m., O'Neill Center, Westside campus.
    Help us celebrate the Class of 2009. Participate in Undergraduate Commencement
    by leading our newest graduates in the Commencement procession. (Alumni
    volunteer opportunity.)
  • Commencement Ceremony, 10:30 a.m., Athletic Stadium, Westside campus.
    Enjoy this special ceremony welcoming our newest alumni into their next association with WestConn. Jonathan Alter, Newsweek columnist, author and television analyst
    will be the Commencement speaker.     Special Commencement seating
    will be available for alumni participating in the Commencement procession. (Alumni volunteer opportunity.)
  • Post Graduation Reception, 1 p.m., Alumni Hospitality Tent, Westside campus.
    Celebrate with new alumni at this reception immediately following the
    Commencement ceremony sponsored by the WCSU Alumni Association. Free.
