Virus Protection Software for Windows and Macintosh
Through an agreement with Network Associates, Inc, WestConn has licensed McAfee anti-virus software for faculty, staff, and students to download and install for free.
To qualify for this university sponsored free download, you must be a currently registered student or an active faculty/staff member at WestConn. You must also accept the license agreement before you download and install the software.

Important Notice!
If you currently have any Antivirus software on your computer, you should remove it now!
Installing this UC version of McAfee on a machine with a program such as Norton Antivirus already installed can severly damage your system.
Windows XP anti-virus removal
- Click on Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> Add/Remove Programs
- Select the current AntiVirus program on your system such as Norton Antivirus or Trend Antivirus.
- Click on Remove buttton to uninstall the old software
- Restart your sytem
Windows Vista anti-virus removal
- Click the Start Button and select Control Panel.
- Select Programs (Programs and Features if you’re using the Classic View).
- Select the current AntiVirus program on your system such as Norton Antivirus or Trend Antivirus.
- Click the Uninstall button at the top of the list.
- Restart your system.
Once you have installed the McAfee software you downloaded from the University's website, you can download updates from McAfee's website. Also, antivirus software must be regularly updated so that it can detect and eliminate the latest viruses that attack your computer. UC recommends that you either manually check for updates for your antivirus software weekly, or configure your computer to automatically check for updates on a daily basis. In addition, you should completely scan your system for viruses at least once a week.
