Design I, Color I
Joel Leneker is currently a part-time lecturer in the Department of Art at Western Connecticut State University teaching color theory and Introduction to Design. He is also a graphic design instructor at Gateway Community College, New Haven, CT. He was a member of the adjunct faculty at The University of Bridgeport from 1987-1990. In 1979, Joel earned a BA in Graphic design and a BFA in Technical Theatre at the University of Bridgeport.
Joel Leneker is President of Leneker Design, a graphic and marketing design firm located in Stratford, CT. He has designed consumer packaging and merchandising systems for Rollerblade, Wagner Spray Tech, Norelco, Toro, Walmart, Target and Hunter Fan Company. Three dimensional direct mail promotional campaigns have been developed for Cigna Financial and Investment Services, Champion Paper, the University of Bridgeport, ABC Sports, Cadbury Schweps, Mount Sinai Hospital, Progressive Architecture and Air Transport World magazines. He has created visual interior merchandising for the U.S. Post Office at the Mall of Americas, Boston Market, Hardees, Roy Rogers, Clearly Delicious and Burger King. Consumer and trade advertising campaigns have been created for Dolomite Ski and Trekking Boots, Mares Scuba, Dacor Scuba, Olin Ski Company, and Toro Irrigation systems. Joel has designed corporate identity systems for Wagner Spray Tech, Norelco, Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Schlumberger.
In addition to graphic design and merchandising, he has designed scenery and lighting for the theatre. A partial listing includes Hot'l Baltimore, Lysistrata, Mid-summer Nights Dream, Company, and Roar of the Greasepaint – Smell of the Crowd. He has done production work for Sara Caldwell and the Boston Opera Company, the New York City Ballet and The John Housman Acting Company at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
Joel Leneker was Art Director for Progressive Architecture magazine, responsible for publication design and traveling furniture and architectural exhibits. He also served as Creative Director for Blue Chip Marketing Group, Stamford, CT and Senior Designer for King-Casey, New Canaan, CT.
From 2007-11, Joel was elected to the Town of Monroe Planning and Zoning Commission. He has served as Vice President of the Monroe Historic District Commission and the Architectural Review Board. Currently, Joel is President of the Save Our Stepney Task Force, a 501(c)3 non-profit community preservation organization located in Monroe, CT. He is also a member of the Nutmeg Curling Club, Bridgeport CT, and served as the club President from 2009-11.
