Mary Lou Alberetti received a BS in education at Western where she also began her passion for art with professor Jim Timmons. She continued to take art classes at Silvermine and Southern CT State University, obtaining a masters in art education with an emphasis in ceramics. Mary Lou then went to Arizona State University to receive a MFA in ceramics. Mary Lou Alberetti has taught at the university level for 30 years and is a Professor Emerita of Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT. Her works are in civic, private, and corporate collections including HBO World Headquarters, New York City and the Mint Museum of Craft and Design in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her work is also included in Sculpting Clay by Leon Nigrosh and Sculptural Ceramics by Peter King. Her work is based on her drawings from studies and travels throughout Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Alberetti’s works are noted for their evocations of
ancient structures, and reflective of the architecture of Italy, Turkey,
France and Ireland, where she has lived, taught and studied. The constructed
and intricately carved reliefs are multi-fired with stains, underglazes and
dry borax glazes, which are sponged, brushed and sprayed. The resulting
interpretation captures the light, textures and colors of the ancient walls,
arches and columns. The final works are fragmented architectural forms, with
echoes of collective images reflecting timelessness and antiquity, imbued
