She says, ""If you take a look at it, you may notice that I am stressing portrait work as well as other paintings and drawings. I think portraiture is a good compromise between "fine art" and commercial art....and hopes it will provide the opportunity to remain a full time artist.
She is concentrating on doing portraits of children, either from photos the parents already have or from photos she can take.
Joan won a first place prize in Oil Painting at the 2010 Richter Art
Association Juried Show for her small self portrait, "Sighting".
She has been working on improving her landscape painting skills,
studying with a wonderful local teacher and brilliant landscape painter,
Anda Skyler.
Joan adds, "'I've also been busy teaching drawing classes. I think that basic
drawing is the first step in becoming an accomplished artist, and the
foundation for all representational work in all mediums. I love teaching
art, and hope to continue with it. Please pass the word on, if you know
anyone who would like to learn to draw and paint."
