Joel Spector, a 2004 MFA graduate of WCSU, is an adjunct professor at Western and does freelance illustration.
Recent projects include the completion of 29 portraits of CEO's and CFO's for a special supplement for Fortune Magazine; He finished two murals, each was 10' X 22', for a cruise liner's casino. The paintings were so well received, they've offered two other murals for another ship. Joel also did 30 portraits of personalities for an educational program.
In 2001, his illustrations were published in two children's books, Poetry for Young People: Robert Browning, published by Sterling Publications and He is Alive! published by Zondervan.
Spector also illustrated the three book series of Laurel, the Wood Fairy.
Among his many advertising work are the Lord & Taylor ads in the New York Times. He has done work for all major publications. His magazines credits include Good Housekeeping, Business Week, New York, Redbook and TV Guide. Catalogue work includes The Bombay Company and Eddie Bauer and he has provided advertising campaigns to Alpha Romeo, American Express, Fidelity Investments, among others.
He continues to illustrate children's book covers and posters for all occasions. Joel is part of the Illustrator's Group that meets weekly in New Milford as featured in the News Times 9/17/03
Joel has been asked to do portraits of Patrice Munsel to hang at the Metropolitan Opera and Claire Bloom to commemorate a lifetime achievement in acting.
