At right is the art auction
Doron writes: I just returned from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where
I attended and participated in the unveiling of the poster that I recently
illustrated for the Calgary Stampede, the biggest rodeo in the world. This
in an annual event, attended internationally, and supported by the entire
city of Calgary, not unlike Mardi Gras, in New Orleans.
The poster for it is a big deal, and each year they unveil the following
year's poster at that year's Stampede. This was a benchmark moment in
my career, an experience of being acknowledged for my success in a way that
I hadn't yet seen.
Hilary and I were given the VIP treatment, picked up at the
airport, and brought to great accommodations. We were given free
passes to the Stampede park, and best seating for events.
The unveiling of the poster took place three times on Thursday afternoon
in three different locations in the Stampede Park. Hilary and I
attended all of them. It was great. I was interviewed several times by
local media, I signed dozens of posters, and there was a video montage of
all that, created within hours, and shown on huge video screens at that
evening's rodeo event.
Upon that showing, I stood up at my front row seat, turned around, and
waved my hat to the crowd.
It was truly my moment in the sun!
Hilary was invaluable in terms of having an unerring sense of where I
should be at all times, who I should be talking to and what was important
from moment to moment. It was at her insistence that we took the trip
in the first place. She also took hundreds of excellent photos, some
of which are attached.
Thank you Hilary, I love you.
