Marylen (Svec) Hossan '53 graduated from The Danbury Teacher's College with a degree in elementary education.  She taught first grade most of her life and is now taking care of her grandchildren, taking art classes and showing her work.  She concentrates on acrylics, pen & ink and pastels.

Marylen is proud of her daughter Elizabeth who has a nursing degree from WestConn.  She won $10,000 when chosen Nurse of the Year.  Elizabeth is a nurse practitioner in Houston, Texas at MD Anderson Hospital.

Mary Lou Alberetti '64 received a BS in education at Western where she also began her passion for art with professor Jim Timmons.  She continued to take art classes at Silvermine and Southern CT State University, obtaining a masters in art education with an emphasis in ceramics.  Mary Lou then went to Arizona State University to receive a MFA in ceramics.  She has taught at the university level for 27 years, and was an adjunct at Western before becoming a full professor at Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, Connecticut.

Alberetti’s works are noted for their evocations of ancient structures, and reflective of the architecture of Italy, Turkey, France and Ireland, where she has lived, taught and studied. The constructed and intricately carved reliefs are multi-fired with stains, underglazes and dry borax glazes, which are sponged, brushed and sprayed. The resulting interpretation captures the light, textures and colors of the ancient walls, arches and columns. The final works are fragmented architectural forms, with echoes of collective images reflecting timelessness and antiquity, imbued with the artist’s fresh point of view.

Her studio and home are in New Fairfield, Connecticut. She can be reached at MlAlberetti@sbcglobal.net.

Nancy (Lee) Sweeney '66 graduated with a degree in education and was a classroom teacher before becoming certified for art education.  Once certified, Nancy taught art education for 11 years, retiring in 1999.  Since retirement, she has been concentrating on her watercolors and has already sold 13 paintings.  She continues to paint and to show her work.   Nancy can be reached at nancylee224@aol.com.

During the course of his long career, Millea has continually chosen to follow the integrity of his vision over other considerations. This commitment has led to a stripping away of all that is extraneous and has helped to shape a mature vision of extraordinary depth.
