| Ival Kovner attended the CAA Conference in Boston.
Hugh O'Donnell was busy with various product line suppliers at the
exhibition hall. He and his wife, Tina were present for the last day of the
exhibition hall, most notably at the Vermont Studio Center exhibit and
Winsor Newton space. Several Westconn affiliates were there to say "hello".
Ival and Hugh spent a moment considering the great loss to the artistic
community of Neil Welliver. Hugh had introduced Ival to Neil at a BU
exhibition he had curated several years before. Tony Zatzick MFA '04 was
demonstrating for Liquitex. As usual, he was surrounded by acrylic paint,
this time in vibrant colors as he worked with his logo apron.
The days were chilly, damp and at times, snowy, but the discourse within
the Hynes Auditorium was animated. Various workshops and lectures provided
attendees with the opportunity to hear Michael Mazur's discourse on
paintings relation to printmaking. Book publishers were very visible and
various authors stopped to talk with others concerning such topics as:
online art history courses and utilizing studio workshops within art history
survey courses. Author Robert Bersson talked to Ival about his experiences
at Brandeis University from the late 60's that both recalled. His textbook,
"Responding to Art", Form, Content & Context, was utilized by Ival for her
Bunker Hill College students' Intro to Art courses. Ival writes, "It's
always fascinating to meet the writer of a book you've been working with for
several years." On the last day of the conference, exhibitors gave
samples and materials to those who were still attending - a windfall to many
artists. |
Ival provided the images for the website
of the conference she attended February 2006. She writes, "The
following images are from the conference that is at the Hynes Auditorium. It
was nice to see fellow Westconn associates and BU associates. Current MFA
students graduating within one year - or more - are able to apply for
$10,000 and mentoring from CAA.
(College art Association) By going to the CAA web site, students can
find our more concerning eligibility. If selected, it can really jump start
professional careers.
