Exhibitions
Gulgun Aliriza, M.F.A. 2007 had a piece selected
from a national pool by Lois Dodd for a show in Bowery Gallery in August
2006, and had a piece selected from a national pool by John Walker for a
show at Bowery Gallery in 2007.
Nancy Cassidy,
M.F.A., 2005 showed a series of river landscapes in acrylic on canvas at the
Washington Art Association in December.
David Cerne, M.F.A. 2008 had a piece selected
from a national pool by selected by John Walker for a show at Bowery Gallery
in 2007.
Lee Cordon,
M.F.A. 2004 had work in a group show at Artwell Gallery in Torrington and a
show at the Brookfield Playhouse this Spring. This summer she will be part
of the small works show at Blue Mountain Gallery, New York and at the Cartus
Corporation Art Exhibit
Bridget Grady
M.F.A., 2004 had work selected for an invitational exhibition at The John
Slade Ely house in New Haven and three National Juried exhibitions
“Particular Places” Creative Arts Workshop, New Haven and at New Haven Paint
and Clay, (juried by Bernard Chaet and William Bailey) and “Connecticut
Visions” biennial juried show at the Mattatuck Museum of Art, Waterbury CT
(juried by Charles Cajori and Barbara Grossman.
Ginger Hanrahan,
M.F.A. 2007, had works included in a juried exhibition 106th
Paint and Clay at the John Slade Ely house in March. Ginger’s work selected
from 450 entries by juror Gerard Dudera, and had a piece selected from a
national pool by John Walker for a show at Bowery Gallery in 2007.
Doris Kaye, M.F.A. 2006, had work
in Weston Open show Spring '06 and in Westport
Art Center's member's show last Summer, Stamford Art Association Juried show
"Faces and Figures". This Spring she will be one of four to exhibit in the
"Winners Show" at the Weston Connecticut Library Community Room.
Joan Kelly,
M.F.A. had a two-person show of her portraits at Gallery Bushier in
Singapore.
Rolandas
Kialevicius, M.F.A. 2006 showed work at Café George in New Haven,
CT. Ival Stratford-Kovner M.F.A. had a work selected for Port Authority of
New
York and New Jersey Exhibition “Unity Canvas” in May. She also was included
in the permanent collections of the future World Trade Center Memorial
Museum and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Derek Leka,
M.F.A. 2007 was included in “Moxie: Best of City Wide Open Studios in June.
Show was curated by the curator of Exit Art and Derek’s work was chosen from
among 550 other artists. In August he exhibited at Bowery Gallery in a show
curated by Lois Dodd. He was selected by Phillip Pearlstein as one of 43
from a field of 1000 for a juried exhibition at Prince Street Gallery in
January. In February he was chosen to design and decorate a violin for the
New Haven Symphony Orchestra 115th Anniversary Celebration. In
March he showed at Guilford Art Center’s “Art in Miniature” show. In August
he will exhibit “The Chakra Element” at the Micro Museum in Brooklyn.
Marilyn Linder,
M.F.A. 2002 had a one-person exhibit at NODA Beet Gallery in Charlotte N.C.
and participated in Open Studio - Area 15 art collaborative - installation.
Susan
Lozoraites, M.F.A. 2007 has two paintings currently in “The Art of
the Garden” show at the Ridgefield Guild of Artists
Sarah Mahan, M.F.A. 2008 was chosen to design
and decorate a violin for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra for the
Symphony’s 115th Anniversary.
DeAnn J. Matheny, M.F.A. 2008 had a piece
selected from a national pool by John Walker for a show at Bowery Gallery in
2007.
Eileen Mooney,
M.F.A. 2006, had work selected for the Mattatuck Museum’s “Connecticut
Visions Show”.
Anna Meyers, M.F.A. 2008, had two paintings
selected for the Sculpture Barn’s Western CT show
Joan Polzin
had work included in member’s shows at the Washington Art Association
and the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown
Mounira Stott,
M.F.A. 2004 sold a piece through Ward-Nasse Gallery in New York. She
also participated in the Blue Mountain Gallery Small Works show in July.
J. D. Richey, M.F.A. 2008 had a piece selected
from a national pool by John Walker for a show at Bowery Gallery in 2007.
Carolyn Wallace,
M.F.A. 2002, participated in a Small Works Invitational Benefit show at the
Washington Art Association in fall 2006
Tony Zatzick,
M.F.A. 2004 won an Honorable Mention in Creative Arts Workshop “Particular
Places” exhibition in new Haven He participated in the Blue Mountain Gallery
Small Works Show in the summer of 2006. In November he had a one-person show
at the Community College of Rhode Island and will be participating in a
five-person watercolor show at the Washington Art Association later in
April.
Commissions
Nancy Cassidy
was commissioned to do illustrations for Harcourt Educational, Lifeway
Christian Resources, AGS Publishing and Continental Press.
Betty Ann
Medieros was commissioned to create a mural on Danbury’s Musical
Heritage. The mural is on permanent display outside of Westerns Ives
Auditorium.
Sarah Mahan created an Oil Painting for the
Roots and Shoots Program, which will be used for a poster to publicize Jane
Goodall’s visit to W.C.S.U. in April.
Anna Meyers created a poster for Literature and
Multimedia Day at Connecticut State University.
Rolandas
Kialevicius was commissioned to create murals for the Chapel Haven
Internet Café in New Haven.
Prizes, Grants and
Scholarships
Joan Kelly
has been awarded a $65,000.00 grant in support of her work. The grant is a
joint award to be shared with a colleague.
Bridget Grady
has been awarded a fellowship from Nanking Technical University to study in
an intensive workshop with Susanna Coffey.
Ival
Stratford-Kovner was awarded a Vermont Studio Fellowship in December
2006. She received a fellowship to participate in the Faculty Institute at
the Massachusetts College of Art in summer of 2006.
Betty Ann
Medeiros won the Connecticut Review Award for 2007
Eileen Mooney
won Honorable Mention in the Mattatuck Museum’s Connecticut Visions” show.
Tony Zatzick
won Honorable Mention in the Particular Places Show CAW.
Publications
Nancy Cassidy
illustrated a book called Go West fro Santilana Publishing, and a huge
project for Augsborg Fortress Publishers involving over 100 illustrations
entitled The Secret Box of St. Jacques. She also had illustrations
published in “Click” Magazine.
Rolandas
Kialevicius published a book called Zoolidays with Red Cygnet
Press. Rolandas wrote and illustrated the book through a prize he won in a
competition sponsored by Red Cygnet Press.
Betty Ann
Medeiros has her work published in spring 2007 Connecticut Review.
Mounira Stott
had three works chosen for publication in New Art International.
Tony Zatzick
had an article on himself and his work published in the WCSU alumni News.
One of his paintings was reproduced.
Teaching
Nancy Cassidy
continues to teach illustration and drawing at the Wooster Arts Center, The
Washington Art Association, the Brookfield Crafts Center and Fletcher Farm
in Ludlow Vermont.
Bridget Grady
is an Assistant Professor of Drawing at Nanyang Technological University in
Singapore. She also continues to teach in her own studio
Joan Kelly
is an associate Professor of painting at Nanyang Technological University
where she is in the second year of a three-year contract. She has also
taught drawing at ASTI University and will be teaching next year in India.
Rolandas
Kialevicius is teaching drawing and illustration at Eastern
Connecticut State University, Wrightwood Elementary School, John B. Sliney
elementary School and the Guilford Handcrafts Center.
Eileen Mooney
is teaching art at the South Kent Preparatory School.
Joan Polzin
teaches watercolor painting at the Brookfield Craft Center and at Easton
Senior Center.
Miscellaneous
Lee Cordon was a
visiting Artist at Harwinton Consolidated School in Spring ’07.
Mounira Stott
is working as an exhibition installer at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield
Tony Zatzick
continues to do educational seminars on acrylic paints for Liquitex at Art
