In mid-October, a collaborative mural between the Art Department and the Communications and Theater Arts Department was dreamed up by Bill Walton and Robert Alberetti.  The project was begun with muslin stretched over a 30' x 12' frame.  Robert Alberetti and two MFA students, Anne Flynn and Lee Cordon, then began the collage process, adding fabric, paint and miscellaneous materials to cover the full length of the mural.

Lee Cordon adds some paint to the collage

Lee hops on a ladder for a better look at the section to be addressed.

Bob and Lee mix new colors to continue the project.

Bob paints a hand on the figure on the wall .

Ann compares costumes for a final touch-up.

and explains what is needed to Bob.

Both Bob and Anne work on the figure.

The work continues

Bob models while Anne finishes the hand.
Facilitators to the project are Frank Herbert and Liz Popiel of the CTA Dept.  Robert Alberetti states, "Part of the Centennial experience of WestConn, "Celebration" reflects a future filled with a multiplicity of ideas, vigor, energy, joy and hope.  One hundred images were used in keeping with the 1903-2003 Centennial theme."

Bob add a final touch to the corner once the piece is hung.

Mike Petrino, CTA '06 holds the mural in place while it is fastened to the wall

Frank Herbert screws the collage onto the wall.
"Celebration" is a mixed media collage of the past present and future, about the WestConn Centennial, and looking at "Meet me in St. Louis" 1903 and Western Connecticut State University 2003. Robert Alberetti said, "The collage was like a dialogue between the artists and the piece."  They each came in and made adjustments when needed.  The colors and yellow rays suggest hope and the bright future.
