Good News from the American Marketing Association
International Collegiate Conference
New Orleans, LA - March 2013

The WCSU Collegiate Chapter of the AMA placed in the top 25 of all collegiate chapters (330+) for the third consecutive year. Members of the chapter also won awards for the AMA Saves Lives video competition, taking 5th place of more than 1500 entries and 3rd place in the communications category for the Booth Exhibit competition. The Annual Conference is attended by more than 1500 students participating in career development workshops, sales competitions, SABRE business simulation competitions, case competitions and professional development workshops. Since WCSU was an award winning chapter in the two previous years, two of our students gave a workshop presentation on Professional Development. The student attendees were Kelly Stendahl, Lauren Dominick, Eve Kroha, Lauren J. Bergren (Club Vice President), Jessica Zingle (Club President), Nick Wolf, Alanna Katz (Club Treasurer) and Jake Nimmo.
Co-Advisors Dr. Ron Drozdenko and Ms.
Donna Coelho (with co-author Dr. Fred Tesch) won the Outstanding
Paper award for the faculty track proceedings at the conference.
Co-advisor Donna Coelho has been invited
to serve on the American Marketing Association’s Collegiate Council,
headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. This is the ten
member governing body of the AMA Collegiate Chapters that develops
and manages all international collegiate competitions, activities
and events.

Ancell Student, Michael Carpanzano Wins
Connecticut College Business Model Competition
Dr. Fred Maidment is proud
to announce that Michael Carpanzano, an Ancell student, has won the
Connecticut College Business Model Competition. The competition is
sponsored by the Connecticut Consortium of Entrepreneurship
Educators, Connecticut Innovations, DECD, Warbros Venture Partners,
and The Entrepreneurship Foundation Inc. Schools from the entire
state of Connecticut participate including Yale, UCONN, Coast Guard,
QU, Fairfield, and Sacred Heart. As many as 60 business plans are
submitted each semester but only about 10 become finalists and there
is only one winner. The contest is held twice per year, in spring
and fall. The Finals were held at the Lawn Club in New Haven.
Competition for this award is very stiff as schools send their best
plans to the competition and there are some very interesting
proposals at the finals.
