Melissa E. Fenwick

Melissa E. Fenwick is a full-time faculty member in the Justice and Law Administration Division.  She teaches courses in criminological theory and research methodology.  Her research interests include crime and the media, cultural criminology, penology, convict criminology, race, class and gender and critical criminology. 

Originally from New Fairfield, CT, Professor Fenwick received her undergraduate degree from Rutgers College in Psychology.  She completed a Master's degree in Criminal Justice at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Her thesis consisted of interviewing female jail inmates at the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Jail and assessing their coping strategies.  She is currently completing her doctorate at the University of South Florida.

Professor Fenwick has published in several peer-reviewed journals such as Sociological Inquiry, The Journal of Criminal Justice, Justice Quarterly and The Journal of Research of Crime and Delinquency.  Furthermore, other written publications include book reviews, book chapters and additional articles.  Professor Fenwick's most recent research is an examination of prison life as portrayed by the film industry.
