John Cronin, Ph.D. Professor of Marketing
Dr. John J Cronin holds a B. S. degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University, an M.B.A. from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in Marketing Communication from the University of Connecticut. After serving in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in the 1960’s, he held managerial positions in finance and marketing at the Doubleday publishing company in the 1970’s. He operated his own company, a direct marketing retailer of home furnishings, in the 1980’s. He came to Western in 1990, where he teaches advertising and direct/interactive marketing in the undergraduate program, and also teaches managerial communication in the graduate program.
Dr.
Cronin’s recent scholarly activity include winning the 2008 “best paper”
award at the Research Summit annual conference of the Direct Marketing
Education Foundation, and publishing a paper in the Journal of Marketing
Education in 2009. In response to the question, what is he most proud of in his career, he mentioned his family, learning to surf at Waikiki Beach, and having traveled around the world twice, once in each direction.
