POR 162 Introductory Portuguese I 3 SH
A first-semester beginning course in Portuguese. The aim is to develop the four basic skills (listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing), and to prepare students for further study in the language. The discussion of distinctive cultural aspects of the Lusophone world is an integral part of this course. General Education: Humanities/World Languages and Literature (if POR 164 is successfully completed).
POR 164 Introductory Portuguese II 3 SH
A second-semester beginning course in Portuguese. Further development of the four basic skills: listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. The discussion of distinctive cultural aspects of the Lusophone world continues. Prerequisite: A minimum grade of “C-” in POR 162 or placement by oral interview. General Education: Humanities/World Languages and Literature.
POR 196 Intermediate Portuguese Language and Culture I 3 SH
The first-semester intermediate level course of Portuguese that focuses on reading, writing, oral comprehension and speaking through a study of Lusophone cultures. Prerequisite: A minimum grade of “C-” in POR 164 or placement by oral interview. General Education: Humanities/World Languages and Literature.
POR 197 Intermediate Portuguese Language and Culture II 3 SH
The second-semester intermediate level course of Portuguese that focuses on reading, writing, oral comprehension, and speaking through a study of Lusophone cultures. Prerequisite: A minimum grade of “C-” in POR 196 or placement by oral interview. General Education: Humanities/World Languages and Literature.
