CELT Teaching Workshop: The Right Way to Write Learning Goals and Objectives
On Tuesday, February 12, 4-5 pm, the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is hosting Ruth Gyure, Ph.D., Department of Biology and Environmental Science, who will demonstrate how to write learning goals and objectives. This is a hands-on workshop during which faculty will create learning objectives pertaining to their courses. CELT Teaching Workshop: Emerging Technologies for the 21st Century Classroom: Prezi: A Dynamic, Imaginative Presentation Tool for Students and Teachers
On Wednesday, February 20, 4-5 pm, the WCSU Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is hosting Robin James, Ph.D., and Alex Fraiha, graduate student, Department of Education and Education Psychology, who will conduct a hands-on workshop on the Prezi presentation program. Presentations feeling a bit stale? Are your students tired of boring, repetitive PowerPoint presentations? In this workshop, we will not only introduce faculty to Prezi, but help faculty design and produce their own Prezi presentation! In addition, this workshop provides essential tips and tricks to make faculty experience with Prezi as practical and user-friendly as possible. CELT Teaching Workshop: Flipping the Classroom: How To Do It and Why
On Thursday, April 4, 4-5 pm, the WCSU Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is hosting Edwin Wong, Ph.D. Biology & Environmental Science Department, and Daniel W. Barrett, Ph.D., Department of Psychology, who will discuss an active learning strategy called “flipping the classroom.” The flipped classroom reverses the common practice in which faculty lecture during the class meetings and assign homework in between classes. CELT Workshop: Integrating Smartphones and Social Media into Your Teaching.
On Thursday, April 25, 4:30-5:30 pm, the WCSU Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is hosting J.C. Barone, Associate Professor of Communication, who will speak about using smartphones and social media in the classroom. Think Facebook, Pinterest, or Twitter are dumb? This discussion describes what worked in one class, and will generate ideas on how you can use various emerging media tools to engage you and your students. CELT sponsors a number of teaching- and learning-related events and workshops. Some are regularly scheduled and others are available on demand. We can arrange meetings to discuss almost any topic related to teaching. From time to time we’ll invite speakers from off campus to give a presentation and/or run a workshop. Discussions and workshops can also be led by WCSU faculty and staff.

Faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to develop, on their own or in conjunction with CELT, presentations, discussions, and/or workshops on topics of interest to them. CELT will be happy to help sponsor and publicize it.

We welcome suggestions for presentations, discussions, and workshops. If there is a topic that you think would be of interest to members of the university community, please let us know. Alternatively, feel free to pass on the name of a speaker who can teach us about learning and teaching.
