CHE 398:  PROPERTIES and APPLICATIONS of NANOMATERIALS

The course will start with an introduction to the properties of nanoscale materials such as nanomechanics, nanoscale heat transfer, electrical and optical properties intrinsically associated with their low dimensionality, and the quantum confinement effect. Critical components in potential nanoscale device applications such as liquid crystals, light emitters, photoconductors, photoresists for nano- and microelectronics, nano-based solar cells and solar to fuel conversion, and optical information storage, will also be covered.  Class will meet for lecture three hours per week.

Prerequisites: CHE205, CHE206 and CHE210. Co-requisites: CHE300 or instructor’s permission       Credit:  3.0
