Lambda Pi Eta Our department-sponsored chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Honors Society, recognizes, fosters and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement in the field of communication. To qualify, a student must be a full-time COM major, have earned 60 credits with 12 in COM courses. S/he must also have a minimum 3.25 GPA in COM courses and a 3.0 overall GPA. Students must also be in the upper 35% of their class, demonstrate commitment to the field of communication and show high standards of professional character. WestConn Research Day Undergraduate conference held on WCSU campus at the end of Spring semesters. WestConn students can share their research or other professional activities (such as video productions) with the University Community. Contact your professor about the opportunity to be involved!
National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Annual Conference National, professional and academic conference held in Las Vegas, NV, at which media-focused students can share their research or other professional activities (such as video productions) with professionals in the field. Central States Communication Association (CSCA) Annual Conference Regional academic conference held in a Midwest state, at which all students can share their research, papers, or other professional activities with scholars in the field. Contact Dr. Jessica Eckstein about the opportunity to be involved!
New York State Communication Association (NYSCA) Annual Conference State academic conference held in New York, at which all students can share their scholarship with field-professionals. Contact your professor about the opportunity to be involved!
Dean’s List Eligibility for dean’s list each semester requires satisfactory completion of a minimum of 12 graded semester hour credits with a 3.5 semester average. Also eligible are full-time students whose minimum of 12 credits includes course work required in their programs of study that must be taken with a pass/fail option, excluding credits that do not count toward graduation, and whose semester and cumulative average is 3.5.
Khalda Logan Award This award is given in memory of Khalda Logan, a beloved professor in the communication department, in recognition of excellence in video production.
Bruce I. Goldsen Radio Broadcasting Scholarship Established by Bruce and Sue Goldsen, WestConn alumni, for scholarships for communication media arts majors who are full time students, have completed one year at WestConn and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Communication Department Emeritus Faculty Scholarship This scholarship was created in November 2007. It is named in honor of Communication Department Faculty members whose service to the University has warranted granting them Emeritus status. This scholarship will be awarded to a full time, undergraduate Communication major who has earned 45 undergraduate credits by the beginning of the Spring semester.
The News-Times/Stephen A. Collins Memorial Scholarship The scholarship was established for communication students interested in journalism and writing, with 45 credits and a resident of a town served by The News Times. It was created by The News-Times in memory of Stephen A. Collins, a News-Times employee for more than 50 years.
