Hanna Smigala graduated from WCSU with a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a focus in Public Relations, in 2006 and thanks to an internship in Western's Office of University Relations while she was a student, she landed an internship and then a full-time job at IBM's corporate offices in Armonk, N.Y. Now a media relations specialist for the technology giant's Software Group headquartered in Somers, N.Y., Smigala wanted to further her knowledge on the evolving technology and business landscape.
The solution was obvious: she came back to Western for her MBA. "I have always loved Western," Smigala says. "Not only is it close to my home and my job, but the professors are really smart and inspiring. I've enjoyed many projects that explore how to best react to 'real-world' business situations."
Asked what she will remember most about her Western experience, Smigala says, "Dr. Cronin's class took us back to elementary school, practicing grammar and spelling — it was a humbling experience!"
After graduation, Smigala plans to continue to work for IBM.
Smigala’s advice to new students entering WCSU is: "Focus on your school work. Your education is your future."
