Jamie Matarazzo decided to attend Western since it was close to her Stratford home and because of the reputation of its programs. "When I first started, I came in as a music education major, and that program is one of the best," she says.
After five years at Western, she's excited to be graduating with a social work degree "because I love the idea of making a positive difference in the lives of others."
Matarazzo says Professor of Social Work Dr. Patricia Ivry became more than just her teacher. "She became my mentor and greatest supporter."
Asked what she will remember most about her Western experience, Matarazzo says, "Being accepted into the junior social work program and feeling that I finally 'fit.' I knew I belonged."
After graduation, Matarazzo has some exciting plans. "I have applied to the Peace Corps and my tentative date of departure is in October."
Matarazzo's advice to new students entering WCSU is: "Work hard and get involved."
