Conor Bierfeldt Hometown: Torrington, Conn. Major: Marketing WCSU Degree: Bachelor of Business Administration Activities: WCSU Baseball Team |
Honors and Awards: Scholar Athlete of the Year, All-Conference Baseball, All-New England Baseball, All-American Baseball
Conor Bierfeldt was a baseball standout at Torrington High School, playing outfield and even throwing the occasional pitch. When it came time to select a college, he wanted to stay close to home, attend a good business school and play baseball. "I was recruited by Springfield, Endicott and Suffolk," he says. "I came here because of proximity, as well as the vibe I got when I came to meet Coach Susi, watched a practice and also got to stay a night on a recruiting visit with some players on the team. Western met all those criteria."
Bierfeldt chose marketing as his major because, he says, "I found it interesting enough to want to learn more about it."
Baseball coaches John Susi and Bill Walton served as mentors for Bierfeldt. "It was nice to have them to help through the first semester of freshman year," he says. "Over the years, they've been there whenever a problem or question comes up that I wasn't sure how to handle. Because they've been through it before with others, it was nice to have them for support whenever I needed help, on campus, off campus, academically, anything."
Asked what he will remember most about his Western experience, Bierfeldt says, "My best memories are sports-related — playing baseball or going to other sports events."
Bierfeldt’s advice to new students entering WCSU is: "Be curious and willing to try everything. Immerse yourself in anything you are interested in. The more you do, the more fun you'll have."
