Training Program for Psychology Graduate Externs and Individuals Seeking Licensure Hours
Opportunity for Doctoral, Masters and Social Work Graduate Externs and Individuals Seeking Licensure Hours
The Western Connecticut State University Counseling Center extends an exciting training opportunity for Doctoral, Masters or Social Work Psychology externs and individuals seeking licensure hours for the 2011 – 2012 academic year.
Successful applicants should be available from August 22, 2011 through May 25, 2012 for a minimum of 20 clinical/training/meeting hours per week. All externs will participate in an intensive training program from August 23, 2011 through August 27, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The Counseling Center will provide ongoing in-service and case conference presentations and externs will receive one hour of individual, direct, face-to-face supervision each week by a licensed professional.
Extern responsibilities include: conducting intakes, providing individual and couples therapy to undergraduate and graduate students, participating in weekly Thursday staff meetings from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., implementing various outreach projects and educational presentations, administering and interpreting the Myers-Briggs and Strong Interest Inventory, conducting a one-hour case presentation at least once a semester and maintaining client charts and files. Externs will have the opportunity to create and implement their own project for the University community.
Minimum Qualifications:
Externs should be enrolled in an APA-approved Clinical or Counseling Ph.D./Psy.D. program or an approved Masters or Social Work program. The Counseling Center is a busy, face-paced center that sees students for a wide spectrum of mental health concerns. Externs can expect to work approximately 20 hours/week.
