PRESIDENT - AUBURN UNIVERSITY - AUBURN, AL

Auburn University, a leading land-grant research university and Alabama's largest institution of higher education, seeks a president to succeed Dr. Ed Richardson upon his retirement in December, 2006.

Founded in 1856, Auburn is ranked among the top fifty public universities in the United States. The University is organized into twelve colleges plus a Graduate School and an Honors College on the main campus in Auburn and six schools on the separately accredited campus in Montgomery, the state capital. Through the 7,800 faculty and staff of its two campuses, Auburn serves more than 28,000 students from fifty states and more than one hundred countries. The University, which operates on an annual budget of over $500 million, is in the midst of a $500 million capital campaign, with more than $370 million already subscribed. The scenic main campus occupies 1,900 acres in the City of Auburn, ninety minutes from the Atlanta International Airport.

The President reports to the Auburn University Board of Trustees and is responsible for all aspects of the university. The Montgomery campus is administered by a Chancellor who reports to the President.

To provide a point of reference for the new president, the AU Board of Trustees recently commissioned a university-wide review by Dr. James L. Fisher and a team of nationally recognized educational leaders. This review is available on the university's website, www.auburn.edu.

The search is open to traditional academic candidates and candidates from other sectors. Candidates should

  • have a record of successful leadership in higher education or other complex organizations,
  • possess uncompromising commitment to institutional excellence,
  • be politically astute, and
  • demonstrate a capacity to raise funds.

Korn/Ferry International, which is assisting in the search, invites confidential inquiries, applications and nominations. All communications will be held in confidence. Applications should include a resume/CV and a letter explaining interest and relevant experience.
