SLAVIC LIBRARIAN

Miami University Libraries is seeking a service-oriented, forward-thinking and enthusiastic team player as Slavic Librarian, a full-time, continuing contract eligible position. Position responsibilities include and are not limited to: liaison and outreach to The Havighurst Center for Russian and Post Soviet Studies; assist users with reference and technology needs, assist customers in the Center for Information Management; develop and maintain strong relationships with academic departments (e.g. The Havighurst Center); develop and manage Russian/Slavic collections; catalog specialized Russian/Slavic materials. The successful candidate will be an independent worker, detail-oriented, able to collaborate with library staff at all levels. Candidates should review the Miami University Libraries’ Professional and Personal Competencies.

Required Qualifications
MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution; fluent in Russian; flexibility in an environment of continual change; the ability to work independently and collegially. Strong commitment to quality public service; familiarity with electronic and traditional resources in reference; strong computer based skills including knowledge of multimedia software; experience or training in cataloging; strong written and oral communication skills; initiative and ability to conceive and carry out projects.

Desired Qualifications
Masters degree in Russian; public service and research assistance in an academic environment; experience with information literacy and with multimedia software; cataloging experience.

Terms of Appointment
An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful candidate having current authorization to work in the United States. This is a continuing-contract, librarian appointment. Librarians at Miami University are members of Faculty Assembly and University Senate and are appointed to the ranks of Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian or Principle Librarian, dependent on professional experience in the field of librarianship. Librarians are reviewed annually first and foremost on the performance of primary professional responsibilities. In addition, librarians are expected to participate in and are annually evaluated on, service and scholarly/creative activities (see the Libraries, Appointment, Rank and Promotion System). Salary negotiable depending upon experience and qualifications.
