DESCRIPTION
The Office of International Research, Education, and Development (OIRED) at Virginia Tech is seeking a Program Director for Women in International Development (WID). This permanent, state-funded position will support the overall international mission of OIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities of the WID Program Director include:
- Providing leadership within the office to ensure that all programs and projects are gender sensitive and have a positive impact on the most disadvantaged beneficiaries, many of whom are women.
- The WID Program Director will seek additional donor-funded projects that focus on women and involve Virginia Tech faculty and students in collaborative activities with host country counterparts.
- Contribute to on-campus activities concerning women in international development.
- Travel extensively internationally in support of office programs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, agricultural economics, or human geography along with a broad analytical background with respect to gender and international development, including scholarly expertise in development theory;
- Extensive international development and management experience with donor-funded activities related to issues of gender and WID;
- Proven success in writing proposals for grants and contracts;
- Ability to initiate activities related to international, multidisciplinary research and development on and off campus and the capacity to do collaborative research in gender equity analysis throughout the world,
- Ability to speak and read one or more foreign languages, especially French and/or Spanish at a FSI level 3 or higher;
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
