Director of Academic Affairs and Planning - State Council of Higher Education for Virginia The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) is the coordinating agency for Virginia’s 39 public colleges and universities. The State Council of Higher Education is seeking an innovative, highly motivated, and experienced individual to serve in the position of Director for Academic Affairs and Planning. This high-level position will provide leadership in statewide and national academic affairs issues system-wide. This position reports to the Executive Director. The Director for Academic Affairs and Planning must be able to provide leadership and coordination for all system-wide academic activities including development of Virginia’s multi-year strategic plan for higher education, Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards Program, institutional program approval, degree escalation, productivity review, transfer and articulation, student competency assessments, changes of mission statement, and new instructional sites. The candidate will provide oversight for several million dollars each year in federal grant programs and a fee-supported post-secondary education certification unit; and serve as liaison to Council’s Academic Affairs Committee, chair regular meetings of institutional academic officers, and serve on state-level boards and leadership teams. A Ph.D is required with extensive experience in a four year college or university and/or a state higher education agency/organization, or national/statewide policy group. Extensive experience in managing or directing programs, projects and professional staff in a higher education environment is preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.
