The National Center for University Roots & Shoots was established at Western Connecticut State University (WestConn) in 2003 by the Jane Goodall Institute.  This Center, the first of its kind in the U.S., serves as a regional and national center of excellence that trains university students, faculty and administrators to develop programs to engage K-12 and college students in local, regional and global conservation and environmental issues.  In 2005 we received a  federal grant to expand our program.  This will be used to strengthen and expand Root And Shoots University Programs throughout the United States.
