Doctor of Education in Instructional Leadership
Program Outreach
WCSU faculty members and administrators who are related to the EdD Program have succeeded in making many connections between the students and local community members as well as with students and professors at other universities. As part of the Guest Lecturer series, students participated in the following opportunities: a leadership seminar conducted by Dr. Dennis Shirley from Boston College; curriculum workshops by experts Dr. Lynn Erickson and another presentation by Dr. Deborah Burns; a joint research presentation with students from McGill University and Dean of Students, Dr. Bruce Shore; a differentiation conference by faculty from the College of New Rochelle; and a dissertation seminar with students from St. John’s University led by Dr. Rita Dunn. A seminar in April 2008 featured Dr. Joseph Renzulli and Dr. Sally Reis from the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut. A future conference in instructional leadership to be hosted by WestConn is being organized with other universities that offer this type of program.
Students also share their expertise presenting workshops at local schools and contributing to the research being conducted at other universities (i.e., helping fellow students collect data). For example, in November 2007, one student presented at a national conference in Minneapolis, MN and another attended an inquiry conference at McGill University where he shared in a seminar with doctoral students from the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology. Dr. Delcourt also contributed to a grant submission through McGill entitled What University Students Know and Do Not Know about Inquiry-Based Teaching and Learning: The Alignment of Teacher Education and Science Education with a Model of Inquiry.
