STATE SUPREME COURT TO SIT IN SESSION AT WESTERN
The Connecticut Supreme Court, the state's highest court, will visit
WCSU to hear oral arguments in two cases.
As part of its continuing efforts at public awareness about the court’s business, the full court (seven justices) will preside over oral arguments in a Civil case and a Criminal case, at 10 a.m. and 12 noon respectively, in the Westside Campus Center Ballroom. At the conclusion of each case, attorneys for the parties will remain to answer questions from the audience.
This event is a singular educational opportunity for students, faculty, staff and the general public to get up close with a prestigious judicial body and to enhance their understanding of the role and responsibilities of the often mysterious appellate court system.
The State Supreme Court, WCSU and the Division of Justice and Law Administration believe the educational value of this visit is significant and powerful.
An informational session about the cases to be argued will be presented Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 1 p.m. in the Classroom Building, Room 243, Westside campus. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
BROWN BAG LUNCH SERIES: WHAT IS HUMAN?
Assistant Professor of Communication, Dr. Truman Keys, will discuss
"Media and the Arab Spring: Representing Human Values" at noon in
Alumni Hall on the university's Midtown campus.
The discussion will be part of a brown-bag lunch series focusing on
what is human. Sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs, the
discussion will be free and open to faculty, staff and students
only. For more information, call (203) 837-8600.
HYPNOTIST JIM SPINNATO
The Program Activities Council (PAC) will present hypnotist Jim
Spinnato at 8:15 p.m. Ives Concert Hall, located in White Hall on
the university's Midtown campus. This event is free and open to WCSU
students.
Captivating, entertaining, exciting and hilarious are just a few words used to describe the incredible performances regularly presented by Southeastern Connecticut comedian and hypnotist Jim Spinnato. This amazing combination of comedy, hypnosis and audience participation have been greatly received at venues such as Foxwoods Resort & Casino, UConn, MIT, Emerson College and Trinity College to name a few.
