Resident Assistants (RAs)

Resident Assistants (RAs) are student peer helpers who live on each floor or section of the residence halls. They work with the members of their floors to build communities which support each student’s academic and personal growth while at WCSU. RAs assist with the administration of the building (check-in and check-out, maintenance requests, scheduled duty and building rounds, working at the information desks, letter delivery, etc.) RAs are also trained and able to assist when roommate conflicts arise, whether just through suggesting some ways to approach a roommate, or more formally through helping to mediate misunderstandings. RAs provide a variety of social, cultural, community service, and other programs throughout the year, not only to help create a strong community, but also to provide opportunities to learn more about each other and all that WCSU has to offer. RAs also assist with things like helping you get back into your room if you left your ID inside, or to talk with when you’ve had a particularly rough day.  RAs are also familiar with and can help to refer you to all kinds of campus resources: Counseling Services, Health Service, the Women’s Center, University Police, and all the learning labs and clinics. In order to successfully apply to students will need a cumulative GPA of a 2.5. We also recommend reading our website for more details about the RA position which can be found on the link below.

Academic Resource Mentors (ARMs)

Academic Resource Mentors (ARMs) are student peer helpers who live in each building on campus. These students work with any student who is looking to improve their academic growth while at WCSU. ARMs are well-versed on the many resources available on campus to students who may need a bit more help with their academics, such as the Math Clinic, Writing Center, Tutoring Resource Center, or Ancell Learning Center. Beyond this, ARMs can assist students through individual or group academic coaching, helping to discover things that might be holding a student back, and working with them to discover tools and skills that will provide a means to break through a log-jam they might be facing. For students who aren’t struggling academically, they can also help them to discover tips and tools that will improve or magnify their successes. ARMs also provide academic and life-skill programs that are aimed at preparing students for their life here as a student and in the greater world once they graduate and move on! In order to successfully apply to be an ARM students will need a cumulative GPA of a 3.2. We also recommend reading our website for more details about the RA position which can be found on the link below for more information on the position.
