Building Superintendent I
Western Connecticut State University is currently accepting applications for a Building Superintendent I.
Responsibilities include: Supervising a staff of up to 30 custodians and Leads on two campuses. Supervision includes scheduling, assigning, overseeing and reviewing the work of staff, providing staff training and assistance, and conducting performance evaluations. Duties will also include determining priorities and planning building maintenance work; establishing and maintaining building maintenance procedures; developing or making recommendations on the development of policies and standards; acting as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; preparing reports and correspondence; inspecting property for defective lighting, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and similar facilities and equipment and reporting concerns to supervisor; maintaining inventory of custodial equipment and requisitioning replacements and supplies; ensuring that rooms are properly set up for special events; preparing bid specifications and cost estimates; responding to emergencies on a twenty-four hour basis; performing related duties as required.
Qualifications: Four years experience in building management or in the operation or maintenance of buildings is required. Three years of experience must have been in a lead capacity in the maintenance of buildings. Adequate physical strength, stamina, and physical agility to perform the job duties is also required. Prior custodial work experience is preferred. A pre-employment medical exam as well as a thorough background check will be conducted. Work Hours: Monday – Thursday (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM) Friday (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM)
Condition of Employment: In order to gain permanent status in this position, the selected candidate will be required to take and pass a State of Connecticut examination for Building Superintendent I.
Salary & Benefits: $22.18 per hour plus medical, dental, and optical insurance, retirement plan, paid vacation days, paid sick leave, 3 paid personal days, and 12 paid holidays.
