Western Connecticut
State University’s School of Professional Studies seeks an innovative
and experienced leader to chair the Department of Education and
Educational Psychology (E&EP). The Department Chair will encourage and
support inter-disciplinary initiatives that maintain and expand
successful and nationally accredited programs ranging from a bachelor’s
degree through a doctorate.
The Department of
Education & Educational Psychology offers
a NCATE accredited Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Elementary and Secondary
Education; Master’s (M.S.) options in Curriculum Leadership,
Instructional Technology, Reading and Special Education; ABA
certificates in Autism Spectrum; Masters of Teaching (M.A.T.) in
Secondary Mathematics, Science and Spanish; M.S. in
Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling;
and an Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership in Education. Courses are
offered in classroom, hybrid and fully online formats. The department
has 15 fulltime and approximately 10 adjunct faculty members.
The Department Chair is
responsible for the leadership and administration of the department
including degree/certificate programs, academic advisement of
undergraduate teaching candidates, the
coordination and quality of instruction, workload assignments, faculty
review, course scheduling, maintaining accreditation standards
and generating reports, expenditure of department funds, equipment and
supply maintenance, supervision of support staff and adjuncts,
facilitating faculty service to the community and university and
professional development. This is a 12-month faculty position, with the
Chair reporting to the Dean of the School of Professional Studies.
Minimum
Qualifications: A doctoral degree
from an accredited university in one of the Department’s instructional
areas; Scholarship and successful college teaching in education that
merits appointment as tenure track faculty (rank open); A record of
success leading a nationally accredited academic unit, teaching or
professional employment in a K-12 public school; Evidence of addressing
the educational needs of diverse populations; Demonstrated skills in
Instructional Technology and collaborative activities with K-12 public
schools.
Preferred
Qualifications: Experience with a
university shared governance model; Coordination of interdisciplinary
research, Involvement in outreach activities; Experience with program
evaluation and accreditation; Participation in faculty governance;
mentoring; and securing external funding.

Rank and salary are dependent
