Assistant/Associate Professor - Two Positions

The Education and Educational Psychology Department’s mission is to prepare students for careers in teaching and counseling professions. The program, which currently serves 925 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in education and counseling programs, is pleased to announce that candidates are being sought for the following tenure-track positions, rank assignment will be commensurate with qualifications:

 

Associate/Assistant Professor

 

This position’s primary responsibilities will include preparing teachers in the shortage areas of reading and special education. The successful applicant will teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, especially in the areas of reading and special education. Responsibilities also include student advisement, service to the Department and University, and conducting related research.

 

Qualifications:  An earned doctorate in Education, Educational Administration, Special Education, Reading or relevant field is required as is a minimum of three (3) years public school teaching. Applicant must also hold or be eligible for Connecticut State Teacher Certification. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent college teaching in special education or reading as well as any State’s Administrator and Supervisor licensure. Recent experience as a supervisor of teachers in the areas of reading and special education, knowledge and/or experience in working in diverse educational settings and the ability to use a variety of instructional methods and performance-based assessments matched to national and state standards is also preferred.  Associate/Assistant Professor

 

While teaching and student advisement will be the primary responsibilities for this position, additional responsibilities may include coordinating a new Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) program. The successful applicant will work with faculty and department chairperson to maintain course sequences and differentiate assignments for MAT students, some of whom are currently enrolled in masters level courses.  Other responsibilities will include developing new courses as appropriate, completing and supervising the governance process for program approval, providing guidance for the admissions process for the MAT program, student advisement, committee work, research, and graduate level teaching.

 

Qualifications:  An earned doctorate or ABD in Education, Educational Administration, Higher Education Administration or relevant field is required as is a minimum of four (4) years combined K-12 and higher education teaching experience. Substantial expertise and experience as a K-12 administrator and postsecondary program coordination is preferred. Preference will also be given to applicants who have experience teaching on the masters and doctoral levels. WCSU is a dynamic, diverse workplace.
