Music Education - Choral Emphasis

The Department of Music at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced music educator to fill a tenure-track appointment in the area of choral music education. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate music education courses including choral methods, sight-singing/ear training, conduct the 100-voice WCSU Concert Choir, coordinate and supervise student teachers, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and oversee research projects. Additional responsibilities depend on candidate’s areas of expertise and Department needs. The successful candidate must maintain an active program of performance, research, and/or scholarly and creative activities. The candidate will also be expected to participate in appropriate department, university and professional service, and build/maintain professional relationships with regional and national music educators.

Qualifications: A doctorate in music education or other relevant field is required at the time of appointment. One or more of the earned degrees must be in music education. Applicants must have at least three to five years of successful public school experience, college teaching experience, and an initiated agenda of research and presentation in the area of the position. The successful candidate must demonstrate professional level artistry in the area of choral conducting. As WCSU is a dynamic, diverse workplace, the proven ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is highly valued. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
