Assistant Professor - Journalism

Tenure Track

The Department of Writing, Linguistics, and Creative Process at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is accepting applications for a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will take the lead in updating our journalism curriculum to include social media and new platforms. He/she will be ready to teach a wide variety of journalism courses, including news writing, feature writing, creative nonfiction, publication design, and online multi-platform journalism.  Full-time faculty members carry a four-four teaching load and are expected to maintain an active research program, serve on committees, and advise students.   

 

Qualifications: Ph.D. with a journalism emphasis or an MFA with a creative nonfiction emphasis is required at the time of appointment.  Demonstrated professional journalism experience and publications is required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated professional journalism experience in online multi-platform environments. Evidence of effective teaching also is required as are excellent written and oral communication skills. WCSU is a dynamic, diverse workplace, the proven ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures is highly valued.

The Department of Writing, Linguistics, and Creative Process offers five options in Professional Writing, as well as writing options in Elementary and Secondary Education. The Department's graduate program includes the nation's only Master of Fine Arts in Professional Writing and a Writing option and Teaching English as a Second Language option for a Master of Arts degree in English.
