The Department of Writing, Linguistics and Creative Process at Western Connecticut State University invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2008. The successful candidate will teach writing courses that include remedial and basic composition, journalism, copyediting, creative nonfiction, desktop publishing, and book publishing. Responsibilities also include working with undergraduate students, one-on-one and online.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a professional journalist and author, with an extensive teaching history and extensive publishing history in newspapers, magazines, web, and books. Candidates must possess or be in the process of completing a terminal degree in a related field. Candidates must have experience in teaching writing courses at the remedial and freshman level as well as show evidence of curricula development and of having energized students in both developmental writing and journalism. Highly rated teaching, significant creative output and scholarship, and a terminal degree are required, prior to tenure evaluation. As full-time faculty members carry a four-four teaching load, with opportunities for reassigned time for faculty development and creative activities/research, candidates should provide evidence of generating and participating in projects that lie outside their teaching assignments. Examples may include organizing readings, conducting assessment, and community outreach. The department engages in many extra-curricular projects at the departmental and university wide levels therefore candidates must work actively and well with others in a community and committee environment.
