President’s
Club members were treated to a special event on Saturday, March 12,
when the WCSU School of Visual & Performing Arts presented a matinee
of Anton Chekhov’s “Three Sisters.” Club members were joined by
Foundation Board members, Dr. James Schmotter, and the cast of the
evening show for a pre-theater luncheon in Warner Hall. An update on
the school’s priorities was offered by Sal Trapani, chairman of the
theater department, and Schmotter briefed the audience on the new
SVPA building and budget issues facing the university. The cast
members traveled from table to table to answer questions about the
play and their experiences at Western.
The innovative performance, directed by Trapani, seated the entire
audience on the stage, placing them in the center of the emotional
performance. The matinee featured the alternate cast, who
interpreted the script with remarkable ease and poise.
