Message from the Director
Welcome to the website for the Institute for Financial Literacy at Western Connecticut State University. I hope you find information on our site both informative and interesting.
At the beginning of the fall 2010 semester, the Institute for Financial Literacy at Western Connecticut State University commenced operations. Under the auspices of the Ancell School of Business, the Institute is a free financial counseling and education service for students who want or need help in managing their money. Its formation was the product of a public/private partnership between Union Saving Bank and the Western Connecticut State University Foundation.
The mission of the Institute is to provide students with a comprehensive set of resources in order to increase their financial literacy, encourage the prudent use of credit, support financial independence, assist students in financing their education at Western and provide a path to the achievement of long term financial goals.
A key concept for the Institute is the use of trained Western students who will present seminars and workshops and provide advice and information to other students. Confidential one–on-one meetings will be available with me or the Student Assistants. The primary goal of the Institute is to create a comfortable space where students can ask questions about personal finance, seek advice about their own particular financial situations, and learn how to plan for their financial future.
If you have any questions about the Institute or would like to discuss your personal financial situation please contact us.
