Guide to Using INB from Off-Campus

General Information

For security reasons, off-campus access to WestConn’s INB system is limited.

Users who need access to INB from off-campus (e.g. home) must send their request in writing to RequestUniversityComputing@wcsu.edu. The campus CIO will review each request and decide accordingly.

Once the request has been approved, the user will connect to the INB system using WestConn’s Neoteris VPN solution. A VPN (or Virtual Private Network) allows an authorized individual to access some protected resources on the campus network from the Internet.

Off-campus access to INB is supported only with broadband connections (e.g. DSL or Cable Modem). Dial-up connections perform too slowly for INB to work effectively.

Step 1: install Jinitiator

(If you are using university equipment from off-campus, please skip this step).

INB requires the presence of Oracle’s Jinitiator plug-in for Internet Explorer (Windows). Macintosh users do not require Jinitiator.

To use INB on personally-owned equipment, users must download and install the following two plugins:

jinit13128.exe

jinit13122.exe

When installing the Jinitiator pluggins, please accept all default values.

Step 2: Connect to the Neoteris VPN

Connect to Neoteris by launching Internet Explorer and opening the following URL:

http://remote.wcsu.edu

Sign-in using your Windows username, password and domain.

After logging into Neoteris, a small Internet Explorer window should open (see Figure 1). This is the Secure Applications Manager (SAM) window.

Figure 1.

If the SAM window opened successfully, proceed to Step 3.

If you use pop-up blocking, you will have to launch SAM manually:

Step 3: Launch INB

Open a new Internet Explorer window; do not reuse the Neoteris browser windows. Go to the following URL:

https://inb.wcsu.edu:8888

On the next page, click on the “Banner Production” link. In a few moments, you should see the login window for INB.
