A workspace is a free online storage place where you can save, access, and share documents (such as Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and files. Use it to group related information for work, school, or personal projects. Online collaboration and sharing is easy - all you need is a person's email address and you can invite them to your workspace. You decide if they can edit or simply review. You can access your workspace from any computer with an Internet connection and a Web browser.

Office Live can be accessed through your
ConnectMail account. If you've already registerd, you can access it by:
- Sign into your ConnectMail account.
- Click "Home" on the top of your email screen.
- Once page is loaded, click "More" on the top of your email screen-a drop down box will appear.

It's free file sharing and online storage. No purchase or credit card information is required. Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta may eventually include advertising, but we're still testing different designs. At some point, we may also offer additional features or services at a charge.

Anyone who uses Microsoft Office can benefit from this online service. If you answer ‘yes' to any of the following questions, this service is for you:
- Do you save information on a flash drive or send yourself documents via email to work on later?
- Do you need to access work files when away from your office?
- Do you need to access school documents when away from your desk (at the library, home on break, etc.)?
- Do you share documents via email for collaboration and then manually merge all the comments later?
- Do you use email to coordinate and share information with your sports clubs, PTA, study group, etc.?

For full functionality, Office 2007 for Windows is recommended. While Office 2003 for Windows is supported, it offers limited functionality. As well, Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac SP2 is also supported. Students will also need a ConnectMail account, and a web browser. Office Live Workspace works with the most commonly used browsers, including:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 on Windows XP, and Windows Vista.
- Mozilla Firefox on Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Mac OS X 10.2.x and later.
- Safari 3 and 4 on Mac OS X 10.2.x and later.

You can register for your Office Live account by following these steps:
- Sign into your ConnectMail account.
- Click "Home" on the top of your email screen.
- Once page is loaded, click "More" on the top of your email screen-a drop down box will appear.
- Select "Office Live".
- Click "Get Started Free".
- Register your ConnectMail email account using your ConnectMail credentials.
- I registered my username and password from my ConnectMail, but my workspaces will not load. I registered my username and password from my ConnectMail, but my workspaces will not load.
Your workspaces may not load during the first initial log in. Should this happen, sign out of your account and log in again. The second attempt should load your workspaces.

Office Live gives you the opportunity to access your documents from anywhere you have an internet connection. Store up to 5 GB and share you workspaces with other users. You can collaborate on documents and view Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files from your web browser.

No downloads are required. There's nothing to install, so just sign up and go. All you need is an Internet connection and a Web browser (see requirements above). For a better experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, an Office Live Update is available for the Microsoft Office suite, enabling you to create, open, and save documents directly to your workspace from these three Office applications.

To save a document created in a Microsoft Office 2007 Program to your Office Live account:
- Click the "Office" button.
- Hover over "Save to Office Live".
- If you are not currently logged into Office Live, select "Sign in to Office Live Workspace beta
- A box will open asking for your credentials-input your ConnectMail credentials.
- A list of your available workspaces will appear, choose the one to which you would like to save and click "Save"

Your workspace comes with 5 GB of storage, which means you can save thousands of average sized Microsoft Office documents. Individual documents can be as large as 25 MB.

You can upload many file types, from Microsoft Office documents to pictures and PDFs. In fact, you can save thousands of Office documents in your online workspace, based on the average file size and use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint by student, work, and home users. For your protection, we don't allow the uploading of files that could cause security issues such as .exe files

Once your workspace is created you can either add a document from your computer or create a document within the workspace. To add multiple documents from your computer click on the next step provided.*
*In order to upload multiple documents at a time, you will need to have Microsoft Silverlight installed. If you do not have Microsoft Silverlight, Office Live will prompt you to install.
To add one document from your computer click "Add Documents". Note: You must click on a workspace listed on the left-hand pane in order to save to the desired workspace.

To initially share a workspace, click "Share" in the upper-right portion of your screen.
To change your sharing options:
- Click "View Sharing Details".
- You can either "Share with more" or "Stop sharing".

You can share individual documents or workspaces with up to 100 people for online collaboration.

If you have installed the Office Live plug-in, you can edit your documents in the native version of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint installed on your computer while saving directly to a workspace.
To open and edit a document saved to your Office Live workspace through the browser:
- Click the document name. The document will open in the browser.
- Click "Edit".
- A warning box will appear stating "Some files may harm your computer", press "OK".
- If you are not currently logged in Office Live, a box will open asking for your credentials-input your ConnectMail credentials.
- Your document will open in Microsoft Office.
To open and edit a document saved to your Office Live workspace through a Microsoft Office 2007 Program:
- Open an Office program.
- Click the "Office" button.
- Hover over "Open from Office Live".
- If you are not currently logged into Office Live, select "Sign in to Office Live Workspace beta".
- A box will open asking for your credentials-input your ConnectMail credentials.
- A list of your available workspaces will appear, along with each document in a workspace. Select the document you want to edit-click open.

Your files have the benefit of virus protection from Microsoft Forefront Security for SharePoint, and they can only be accessed with a Windows Live ID and password. You control who can view, comment on, and edit your documents for collaboration. You manage permissions and decide whether someone has access to a single document or an entire workspace.
