Installation for Mac
Introduction/Utility
McAfee Security prevents viruses and malware from infecting your system and helps keep your personal computer secure. It is important to be able to control the communications into and out of your computer to ensure that your computer is safe. McAfee destroys threats at all entry points to your computer and consistently monitors and stops virus-like activity from entering your computer, preventing any new threats from spreading.
WARNING: Before attempting to install this software, make sure that you are NOT already running Anti-virus software on your machine. Failure to do so may cause problems with your machine.
CURRENT MCAFEE USERS: If you are currently using the previous version of McAfee Security offered by WestConn, you must uninstall McAfee Security to install this new product.
Operating System Requirements
McAfee Security Center 1.2 runs on the following Macintosh platforms (32-bit and 64-bit where applicable):
- Mountain Lion 10.8.0 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Lion 10.7.0 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
- Snow Leopard 10.6.0 or later (32-bit and 64-bit)
Installation Procedures
- Log into the system's administrator account.
- Download the McAfee Security for Mac 1.2 installer. Result: The downloaded file, McAfee_Security_1.2.dmg, expands to the disk image, McAfee Security 1.2. Double click on the disk image.
- You will find three package files: VSM920-Installer.pkg, VSM920-Patch1-HF821823.pkg, and VSM920-Patch2-HF833397.pkg. Double-click VSM920-Installer.pkg to start the installer. Result: The window shown below appears. Select Continue.

4. At the screen shown below, select Continue to begin the installation process.

5. Review the Important Information listed in the window shown below. If you agree and meet the system requirements, select Continue.

6. Review the Software License Agreement as shown below. If you agree to the Software License Agreement, select Continue, then Agree.

7. If prompted, select the disk where you want to install the McAfee Security Software. Once selected, select Continue.

8. To proceed with the installation, select Install.

9. You will be prompted to enter the credentials of an account on the computer that has administrator privileges. Enter those credentials now, and then select OK. The installation will then commence.

10. Once the installation has completed, you will see the window as shown below.

11. Repeat steps 3 through 10 and install VSM920-Patch1-HF821823.pkg and VSM920-Patch2-HF833397.pkg in the same manner. Once completed, please proceed to step 11.
11. Go to the Apple menu at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Select Restart.

12. Go to the Apple menu at the top left-hand corner of the screen. Select Restart.

VirusScan destroys threats at all entry points to your PC and consistently monitors and stops virus-like activity from entering your computer, preventing any new threats from spreading.
WARNING: Before attempting to install this software, make sure that you are NOT already running Anti-virus software on your machine. Failure to do so may cause problems with your machine.

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.8i runs on the following Windows platforms (32-bit and 64-bit where applicable):
- Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack (SP) 4
- Windows XP Home or Professional Editions with SP2 or SP 3
- Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, with SP3
- Windows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Home Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate (32 & 64 bit)
- Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate (32 & 64-bit)
- Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise
Installation Procedures (Based on a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit configuration)
- Download the McAfee VirusScan Enterprise Edition product, and save it to your hard drive. Note: A free download of the McAfee Antivirus software may be found at www.wcsu.edu/antivirus. Click on ‘PROCEED TO THE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD’ at the bottom of the page and login with your Windows username and password. Complete steps 1-3 of the End User License Agreement.
- Close all other applications.
- If you have existing anti-virus software, you will need to uninstall it first. Go to Start, then Control Panel. Under the Programs heading, select Uninstall a program. Select your old anti-virus program from the list and click Uninstall from the top toolbar. Make sure that you restart your system before proceeding with installation (Repeat process if you need to uninstall McAfee Security Center). Once completed, Restart your computer.
- You will be downloading the zip file: McAfee-8.8i-Application.zip.
- Right click the McAfee-8.8i-Application.zip archive and select “Extract All”. Choose a location to extract all (the default location should be fine). Select Next. Once the process is completed, click Finish. The extracted files will display in a new window.
- For Windows 8, double-click the SetupVSE_Win8.Exe file to launch the file.
For all previous Windows versions, double click the SetupVSE.Exe file to launch the file. - The following pop-up window below will appear:
- Click Next to start the installation wizard.

For License expiry type, choose 1-Year Subscription.

- Select Typical for Setup Type.
- VSE installs in: C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise\ folder by default. Click
Browse to specify another folder. Otherwise, select
Next.
- Select Standard Protection.
- Select Next.
- Click Install to begin the installation.

- Once this process is completed, VirusScan
Enterprise has been successfully installed.
- Check Update Now. Do NOT check Run On-Demand Scan. Click Finish.
- Once you select Finish, McAfee will begin to update the
anti-virus engine and virus definitions. The window at the
right will close automatically once the updates have
completed.

- At the prompt at left, select OK.
- You will need to restart your computer to enable the following integrated McAfee services: Distributed File Scanning, Port Blocking, Infection Trace, and Infection Trace Blocking.
Restart your computer now.

Select “No”.
Once your machine has restarted, you can launch the VirusScan console at any time, right click on the Vshield icon
, and choose Virus Scan Console.
