Blackboard Learn 2016 Theme Upgrade – December 17, 2017 Implementation
On Sunday, December 17th, IT&I will move to the Blackboard Learn 2016 Theme. We are currently running the 2012 theme.
Why? The 2016 theme will be the first step in our move to the Bb Ultra interface which is scheduled for summer 2018. The new Blackboard 2016 theme design has a different color scheme, fonts, and spacing. In addition, the theme greatly improves the responsiveness on mobile devices. This means that when users log into Bb Learn on a mobile device or tablet, screen elements compress or change position so they stay visible. As the screen gets smaller, modules and tool tiles stack so the user still has access to them at their fingertips.
We understand that winter session course shells have been released and that you will begin developing your winter course(s) in the coming weeks and spring courses soon, as well. Colors and fonts will be standardized, so please do not spend time customizing those. Although your course will look a bit different visually, there will be no change in functionality.
Unfortunately, we have to move all courses to the 2016 theme at once. We realize that there is no perfect time to make this transition. We will have staff available on December 17th to answer any questions that you may have. I’ve included a brief video which shows the differences between the two themes.
