Blackboard Learn Update: Effective Winter Intersession 2018, the following changes will occur:
Going forward, all Blackboard courses will become available to students on the first day of classes and unavailable 10 days after the last day of the semester (for final grades and disputes). Fall 2017 will be the last semester that courses are set to Continuous – available immediately and remain open indefinitely. As always, faculty can override availability settings at any time under the Control Panel by selecting Customization\Properties then Set Course Duration section.
Please note: Even though courses may appear in the Course List module as “(unavailable – will be available access date)”, instructors will still have access to them but students will not. The courses will be non-clickable/greyed out to students until the availability date. Students will not be able to access courses outside the defined terms as stated above – unless the setting for availability (earlier or extended access) has been adjusted by the instructor.
Reminder: Move to Blackboard Theme 2016:
On Sunday afternoon, December 17th, we will be moving to the new Blackboard 2016 Theme. To reiterate, there will be no change in functionality; the new theme design will have a different and consistent color scheme, along with fonts and spacing. In addition, the theme greatly improves the responsiveness on mobile devices. This means that when you log into Bb Learn on a mobile device or tablet, screen elements compress or change position so they stay visible. As the screen gets smaller, modules and tool tiles stack so you still have access to them at your fingertips.
Instructors, please note: Due to the consistency of the design and format, you will no longer be given the option to customize your courses. Font and font colors are automatically set by the Learn 2016 theme, so do not spend time customizing your course(s). This will also effect Fall 2017 courses since there is no downtime between the end of Fall and the beginning of the Winter Intersession.
This change affects all courses – current and previous. We realize that there is no perfect time to make this transition. If you have any questions or issues, please email our IT&I Service Desk at RequestIT@wcsu.edu.
