Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Auditions

  1. How do I know what to prepare for my audition?
Audition requirements, specified by degree program, are available online at http://www.wcsu.edu/music/audition.asp
  2. Do I need to be able to read music to be considered for admission into a degree program in music at WCSU?
Yes. The ability to read and interpret standard musical notation is required for admission into all music degree programs.
  3. When will I know if I passed my audition?
You will be notified within two weeks of your audition.
  4. If I am accepted by the Department of Music, does that mean that I am also accepted by WCSU?
No. You must also apply academically to the Office of Admissions.
  5. What if I am accepted by the Department of Music but not by WCSU?
There are still options. Contact Debbie immediately upon hearing from the Office of Admissions.
  6. What if I am accepted by WCSU, but not by the Department of Music?
You may still attend WCSU, but not as a music major. We have many non-music majors playing in our performing ensembles.
  7. What if I applied for a BM or BS degree but was accepted into the BA program instead?
You may re-apply for your desired degree program at the end of your first year of study.
  8. Does the Department of Music offer scholarships?
Yes, but they are very limited. The relatively lower cost of a state-assisted institution is subsidized by your parent’s tax dollars. WCSU represents a great value when compared to private conservatories with similar programs. Don’t be fooled by large “scholarships” from these institutions. The only true comparison is the bottom line: how much do my parents have to write a check for after discounts, financial aid and scholarships.
  9. How do I apply for a Department of Music Scholarship?
The level of your audition and the type of instrument you play generally determines your eligibility for a scholarship. You must also apply for a scholarship. Go to http://www.wcsu.edu/music/scholarships.asp for more information.
