Applied Jazz Trumpet, Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Jazz

Dave Scott is an award winning trumpet player with a wide range of professional experience who has worked with some of the greatest jazz artists in the world.

Currently residing in New York, Dave has been composing for and performing with his own jazz quintet.  The quintet released “Song For Amy” on the SteepleChase label in 2004.  The recording received critical acclaim in JazzTimes in March of 2005.  Dave also co-leads a quartet with tenor saxophonist Tony Malaby.  The group has a CD released on the Nine Winds label.  Many of Dave’s original works are featured on the release.  Both groups perform regularly in the New York City area, and on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art concert series.  Other performances include the Texas Jazz Festival, the Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle, and extensive tours throughout Arizona, California, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Vancouver, B.C.  Dave is also a fine pianist and was most recently featured as a piano soloist on the Kim Richmond/Clay Jenkins Ensemble’s latest release “RANGE”.  He has also been featured as a trumpet soloist on Kim Richmond’s current big band CD “PASSAGES”.  He has also toured and recorded as a featured soloist with the Jim Widner Big Band.  As a clinician and soloist Dave has performed on numerous jazz festivals and at schools across the United States including the University of Illinois, the University of Missouri, the University of Texas at Austin, Arizona State University, the University of Oregon, California Institute of the Arts, Syracuse University and the University of Utah.  He has been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival with Gerry Mulligan, at the Monterey Jazz Festival with Harvey Wainapel’s Quintet, and recently perfomed with the Tom Harrell Big Band in Los Angeles and New York.

Dave’s ability to perform on both trumpet and piano gives him a unique perspective as a clinician.  Currently on the jazz faculty at Western Connecticut State University and formerly at the University of Southern California, Dave coaches combos and teaches improvisation to jazz majors.  Dave’s professional activities include performances and tours with such jazz notables as the Clark Terry Big Band, Bobby Shew, Bob Sheppard, Vinny Golia, Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder and Joe LaBarbera.  In 1984 Dave was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in jazz performance.
