Adjunct Instructor of Music
Connecticut music educator Gregg Winters received both his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University. He has also completed an additional sixty credits past his Masters (mostly in the area of music technology) through Central Connecticut State University, the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, and the Berklee College of Music.
Gregg has been teaching instrumental, general music, and computer media grades K-12 in Westport, Connecticut since 1992 innovatively employing his music technology expertise in the classroom. During his tenure at Bedford Middle School, Mr. Winters’ jazz ensemble was selected to perform at the 2000 Connecticut Music Educators Association conference in Hartford, Connecticut and his students consistently receive accolades and awards in both state and regional music festivals.
In the fall of 2001, Mr. Winters joined the music faculty at Western Connecticut State University as an adjunct professor of music technology. Gregg’s advocacy for utilizing music technology has provided him the opportunity to present at local and national conferences as well as design Internet-based learning environments and assist other school districts with implementing music technology programs. He has worked with students and colleagues to design “across-continental” composition projects incorporating digital audio, digital video, and the Internet.
In addition to music technology, Gregg has been instrumental in writing the music curriculum for the Westport public schools and was nominated as a candidate for Westport Teacher of the Year for the 2006/2007 school year. He continues to serve as the Western Region Middle School Jazz Ensemble co-chair, which he has done since 1996.
