WCSU to host lecture about human trafficking
DANBURY, CONN. — New Haven-based, non-governmental organization Love 146 will present “Voices of the Voiceless: A Lecture on Human and Sex Trafficking” at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, in Room 102 of Warner Hall on the Western Connecticut State University Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. Domestic and international human and sex trafficking will be discussed at the free, public lecture.
Human trafficking occurs every day all across the country. The U.S. State Department estimates more than 15,000 men, women and children are trafficked into the United States each year.
Love 146’s vision is the abolition of trafficking and exploitation. The organization was formed after its co-founders went on an exploratory trip to Southeast Asia in 2002 to get a better understanding of how they could serve in the struggle against human trafficking. While in Thailand, the co-founders encountered a child used for trafficking and numbered 146. It was there that the organization’s work began. Love 146’s projects have expanded to many areas of Europe, Asia and the U.S. The organization seeks to combat the issue of child sex slavery and exploitation through prevention, aftercare and research programs.
