Western invites public on fun-filled day trips

DANBURY, CONN. — Need a quick getaway with the plans already made and a fun group all ready to go with you? Look no further than the Alumni Association at Western Connecticut State University. From June through October, the association is offering several trips that include something for everyone — from an elegant gourmet dinner to a full day at a lakeside water park.

The following is the list of events:

Sat. June 4 — Elegant dining at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y. Enjoy a four-course banquet at the CIA’s Escoffier Restaurant. The price of $86 per person includes lunch, gratuity and transportation. The menu includes French onion soup, grilled pepper-crusted steak and chocolate pot de crème. The motor coach will leave from the university’s Midtown campus, University Hall, 181 White St. in Danbury at 9 a.m. and will return at approximately 5 p.m.

Sat. July 16 — Fun and leisure at the enchanting Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, N.Y. Built in 1869, the 265-room Victorian castle is nestled on thousands of acres of pristine forest and 85 miles of hiking trails. The $89 per person price includes bus transportation from WCSU’s Midtown campus, Mohonk house presentation, picnic lunch, coupons for the gift shop and greenhouse, refreshments before departure and souvenir. The bus leaves the university at 8 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m. Reservations will be taken until June 16.

Sat. Aug. 6 — Splashing around at Lake Compounce in Bristol. The per person cost of $33 includes admission from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., parking, an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch, unlimited rides, show and attractions, unlimited soda throughout the park and a return visit ticket for the 2011 season.

Sat. Oct. 29 — Haunted enchantments in Salem, Mass. Walk the narrow streets of this “Witch City” and pass unusual shops and museums as you listen to historical tales of the city’s bewitching past. The price of $49 per person includes bus transportation and an alumni bag. The bus will leave WCSU’s Midtown campus (University Hall) at 7 a.m. and will return around 10 p.m. Reservations will be taken until Sept. 29.
